One thing I love about horses is their complete lack of ego. Where they are in the herd pecking order does not affect their self esteem or personality. Recently I worked with a client who was mercenary about keeping only the best and brightest people in his organization. He wasn't especially kind to those he didn't see as good enough--young enough, bright enough or strong enough. Mistakes were not accepted. And no matter how much anyone helped or supported him, he never extended himself unless the person had potential to give him specific returns he wanted. One day he reached his career ceiling, and his ego took a big "correction". Eventually the player gets played. We all grow older, there will always be someone smarter, richer, or more accomplished than we are. Stay humble, do your best, cherish those who cherish you, and treat people as you want to be treated. Have a great day!
