Before I ride tall beautiful Truman I need to be sure he feels safe, comfortable, and connected. If not,... well, it's a long way down.
Horses must feel safe and comfortable with us before they are able to give us their full attention. They need their emotions recognized and responded to before we can work together. The heart connection comes first. Every time. All the time.
People, too, need their emotions addressed first. Hence the recent emphasis on psychological safety and empathy in leadership. Emotions need to be heard, validated, and addressed before any type of problem- solving, skill building, or work can be done.
Only when Connection is in place can we move forward with Clarity-- skill building, problem-solving, information- sharing, etc. and Courage- taking action.
Do you make sure you are connected first? Every time?
